Trans-Cool Tokyo: A Contemporary Selection from Tokyo on Display in Taipei

Trans-Cool Tokyo features a selection of 45 contemporary artworks from the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, covering a diverse range of types including painting, installation, video, multimedia, and sound works. A total of 18 artists are participating, including Yayoi Kusama, Yasumasa Morimura, Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Ryoji Ikeda, Koki Tanaka, Kohei Nawa, Masakatsu Takagi, and Nakanohana Aragami, among others.

Trans-Cool Tokyo will showcase 45 carefully selected contemporary artworks from the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, featuring a wide variety of media. These include two-dimensional paintings, installations, videos, multimedia, and sound pieces, with 18 artists participating, such as Yayoi Kusama, Yasumasa Morimura, Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Ryoji Ikeda, Koki Tanaka, Kohei Nawa, Masakatsu Takagi, and Nakanohana Aragami.

The artworks in this exhibition are framed around the relationship between art, pop culture, and everyday life. Beyond introducing the “cool” characteristics embedded in Japanese pop culture, the exhibition also seeks to showcase the stylistic evolution and future direction of contemporary Japanese art through critically engaged creations. The curators have divided the works into four major categories based on the nature of the artists’ pieces and roughly chronological order, including the characteristics of Japanese pop art, the heterogeneous essence of perception, micro-politics and the pursuit of realism, as well as the technologically conscious body.
