Digital Cable TV Exhibition in Taipei Offers Gifts & Experiences

To allow more residents to experience digital cable TV content firsthand, the Taipei City Government has set up an exhibition pavilion at Xiangdi Plaza, New Sanrio Square in Xinyi District from now until July 31, and is hosting the “Digital Taipei, Fun Viewing the Future” event. The first 100 visitors each day can enjoy free digital cable TV for three months. In addition, digital cable TV has been installed in all 12 of the city’s sports centers, allowing residents to experience high-definition programming on digital sports channels nearby.

The first “Digital Taipei FUN视未来” event runs from now until July 31, with each themed area offering different activities. In addition to showcasing features unique to digital cable TV such as electronic program guides and video-on-demand services, the digital photography area allows visitors to take free photos and upload them to their email. Multiple interactive games are also scheduled each day, including darts, online games, and digital boxing. The first 100 Taipei citizens to visit each day will receive free digital cable TV for three months, with the first 30 also receiving a surprise gift pack. Additionally, those who fill out a questionnaire on-site may win major prizes such as a 42-inch LCD TV, iPad, tablet, and one year of free viewing.

Although Taipei has long been the smart city with the highest wireless internet coverage rate in Asia, its digital cable TV penetration still lags behind that of other major international cities nearby. Therefore, this year the city has specially collaborated with nine local service providers to organize the “2011 Digital Cable TV Year” series of events. The second session of the “Digital Taipei FUN视未来” event will be held from August 5 to August 21 at the plaza in front of SOGO Renaissance Department Store near Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT Station.
