Explore Lanyang with rural fun and slow travel

Wellness is in vogue, and rural tourism is booming. In recent years, many have included rural attractions in their family travel itineraries. Not only can you get close to nature, but there are also various hands-on activities that provide both education and entertainment. In Dongshan Township, Yilan County, the Zhongshan Leisure Agriculture Area has over 30 farms and tea plantations. The peaceful and serene environment is perfect for cycling around the various attractions, joining farmers in picking tea leaves and fruits, experiencing the joys of farming, and even roasting and frying tea leaves by hand to enjoy the fruits of your labor. The Zhongshan Leisure Agriculture Area was once the source of the Dongshan River. It mainly grows tea and pomelo, with large areas of hillside designated as protected woodland. Rich in natural resources, it has gradually developed into a sightseeing agricultural area that emphasizes culture and nature. Covering approximately 800 hectares, the area is dotted with tea and fruit farms as well as homestays. There’s also the Ren Shan Botanical Garden, ideal for leisurely walks and hikes, making it a great destination for a day trip from Yilan.

Zhongshan Tourism Service Center

Located at the entrance of the Zhongshan Leisure Agriculture Area, the tourism service center provides various travel information, itinerary planning, package ticket sales, and bicycle rental services. A full-day bike rental costs just NT$180 (groups may book in advance). Additionally, many farms and attractions within the Zhongshan Leisure Agriculture Area feature colorful cow statues. Cows were once abundant in the region and served as essential helpers for farmers, so these painted cows are placed around the area to remind visitors to appreciate their roots. Dongfeng Organic Farm

Run by Mr. Lin Wen-long, chairman of the Zhongshan Leisure Agriculture Area Development Association, Dongfeng Farm is located in a renovated old farmhouse and is divided into a homestay area and an experience zone. The wooden homestay exudes the scent of natural timber and features farm-made essential oils. Visitors can follow the farm’s arranged itinerary, go on outdoor tours, and breathe in the fresh air.
