The annual major exhibition at the Juming Museum kicks off on March 16

The Juming Museum will launch its annual major exhibition: the thematic show "The Development of Taiwanese Sculpture in the 1970s." In addition to showcasing this important collection, the museum aims to enhance public understanding of the art and localism movement of the 1970s and to inspire greater attention and research. To this end, a two-day symposium will be held on March 31 and April 1 in Room 202 of the International Conference Hall, located on the second floor of the College of Education Building at National Taiwan Normal University.

In March 1976, artist Juming held his first solo exhibition at the National Museum of History, establishing his status in the art world. His works, rich in local imagery, garnered widespread attention and discussion within Taiwan’s cultural circles and were later regarded as significant representations of the art scene during the 1970s localism movement in Taiwan. As such, the 1970s hold great significance for Juming, marking a crucial and remarkable period in his life.

This symposium will feature 16 scholars and artists, including artist Juming, Juming Museum Director Wu Shunling, Professor Hsiao A-chin from the Institute of Sociology at Academia Sinica, How Cheng-kuang, publisher of Artist Magazine, Liu Baicun, head of the Sculpture Department at Taipei National University of the Arts, artist and art history researcher Lin Xingyue, and Chen Fang-ming, director of the Graduate Institute of Taiwanese Literature at National Chengchi University. They will present specialized papers analyzing and discussing the historical background, social context, and impact on the history of Taiwanese sculpture during that era.
