The "Ocean Independent Music Awards" are now open for registration, with a top prize of up to NT$200,000.

The 13th "New Taipei City Gongliao International Marine Music Festival" will be grandly held from July 11 to 15 at the Fulong Beach in Gongliao. The widely watched "Ocean Independent Music Awards" for independent music bands also opens for registration starting today, with the deadline set for May 7, 2012. Bands interested in participating should seize the opportunity to create a shining stage for their works.

This year’s Ocean Independent Music Awards feature three categories: the top prize "Ocean Grand Award" with a cash prize of NT$200,000, the "Jury Grand Prize" with NT$50,000, and the "Ocean Star" award. Over the years, bands that have honed their skills on the Ocean Main Stage—such as Cheer Chen, Chopstick Brothers, Tizzy Bac, Won Fu, Sodagreen, Totem, Fish Leong, Monkey Pilot, Crowd Lu, and Matzka—have each carved out a unique place in the Chinese music scene with their diverse musical styles. Last year’s Ocean Grand Award winner, SE Band, will even perform at the Beijing Midi Festival this May, bringing the passion and rock charm of the Marine Music Festival across the strait to represent Taiwan on the global stage.

In addition, the Heatwave Small Stage performances during the annual Marine Music Festival also provide independent bands with a platform to showcase themselves, serving as a great opportunity for exchange and mutual learning.
