The Penghu Fireworks Festival goes fresh this year with new stone weirs, terns, and geology-themed tours!

The Penghu Maritime Fireworks Festival, which has been held for over 11 years, will take place from April 16 to May 24 at the Guanyinting Leisure Area in Magong City, running for about a month and a half. During the event, stage performances will be held from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday and Thursday evenings, with a 15-minute fireworks show launched at 9:00 p.m. over the Xiyin Rainbow Bridge at Guanyinting. Unlike previous years, no matter how long the fireworks festival is extended, this year’s opening and closing events are confirmed for April 16 and May 24.

The 15-minute fireworks show of the “2012 Penghu Maritime Fireworks Festival” includes five segments: “Peacock Flame Dance Welcoming Guests,” “Colorful World, Bright Life,” “Flowing Flowers and Love in Penghu,” “True Love in Penghu, Happy Home,” and “Pearl of the Sea, Beautiful Penghu.” The fireworks range in size from 8-inch shells to 10-inch and 12-inch large fireworks. Zhang Ruidong, Director of the Penghu County Government Tourism Department, stated that last year, to celebrate the centennial of the Republic of China, 24 fireworks shows were held—the most in history—and this year they hope to maintain around 24 shows as well. The event is expected to extend to June 29, and a special fireworks show has been added on Saturday, May 19, to accommodate those who cannot attend on weekdays.

Notably, this year the Penghu Forest and Nature Conservation Office commissioned Dali Travel Agency to launch the “Fresh Fun in Penghu” eco-tour for the first time, using an educational interpretation format to take visitors to explore never-before-seen new attractions in Penghu. “Fresh Fun in Penghu” is divided into three major themed features: stone weir ecology, tern ecology, and geological landforms. The in-depth 2-day-1-night tour package starts at NT$5,299, with one group departing each day from Thursday to Monday starting April 12 (Thursday), including an English tour on Mondays. The 1-day and 3-day tour packages start at NT$499 and NT$7,290 respectively, with groups departing daily starting April 10, and a minimum of two people required to book.
