Taiwan's Super Cosplay Festival Kicks Off on May 26

The cosplay (costume play) culture originating from Japan has gradually swept across the world. In Japan, the "World Cosplay Summit" (abbreviated as WCS) is held every year, where representative teams from over a dozen countries compete and parade based on Japanese ACG (an abbreviation for Animation, Comic, and Game, referring to animation, comics, and games). To actively compete for the Taiwan division qualification of WCS, Leofoo Village Theme Park and local enthusiasts formed the "Taiwan Cosplay Art Promotion Association." They have scheduled the WCS warm-up event — "2012 Taiwan Super Cosplay Festival" (abbreviated as TSCC) — to be held on May 26. The champion will get priority to represent Taiwan in Japan at this July’s "2012 World Cosplay Summit" exchange and observation event (the event will sponsor a round-trip air ticket and hotel accommodation in Japan for seven days and six nights), while the runner-up and third-place winners will receive a luxurious presidential suite romantic couple tour package (valued at NT$70,000) sponsored by Leofoo Prince Hotel, as well as a deluxe room happy couple tour package (valued at NT$12,000).

Registration for the TSCC competition ends on May 10 and is conducted entirely online. The TSCC competition follows the rules of the "Japan World Cosplay Summit." The entry theme must be based on Japanese-produced manga, anime, video games, or tokusatsu (works with surreal or sci-fi themes). The competition is limited to pairs (must be based on the same ACG theme), and the scoring criteria are 90% judge scores and 10% audience votes (open to the first 300 audience members for voting). The judging panel includes official reviewers from Japan’s Aichi Television, as well as well-known figures from the industry such as Akuna and Somei M from the Versailles Design Studio, and Hell Butterfly Maru, who previously placed second at WCS. It is hoped that through the grand staging of each TSCC event, Taiwanese cosplay art can be promoted onto the world stage.
