China Airlines Adds Direct Flights to Toyama, Making Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route More Accessible

Following the successive launches of flights to Kagoshima and Shizuoka on March 25, China Airlines inaugurated its Taoyuan–Toyama route on April 16. The route operates twice weekly—on Mondays and Fridays—using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, offering 8 business class seats and 150 economy class seats. Coinciding with the opening of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route on April 17 this year, travelers can more conveniently visit to experience the grandeur of the snow walls.

Toyama Prefecture is located in the Hokuriku region of Japan’s main island of Honshu, facing the Sea of Japan, and is equidistant from the three major metropolitan areas of Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, offering a uniquely advantageous geographical environment. The prefecture's renowned Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route features the “Great Snow Wall Walk,” where visitors can walk through snow walls about 20 meters high, experiencing the awe-inspiring presence of towering snow. In addition, there’s Shirakawa-go Gassho Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site designated in December 1995, and Kenrokuen Garden in Kanazawa, one of Japan’s three most celebrated gardens—both are must-visit tourist spots.

To let travelers experience the thrill of walking through the Tateyama Kurobe snow walls ahead of time, China Airlines has set up a 6-meter-tall realistic snow wall next to its Taipei branch office on Nanjing East Road, open for free visits until May 31. The public is welcome to come and experience what it’s like to walk through the Great Snow Valley of Tateyama Kurobe.

To celebrate the new route launch, China Airlines is offering promotional economy class fares as low as NT$10,300 (excluding tax) for one month on Taoyuan–Toyama round trips. It also introduces themed refined travel packages such as the “Toyama 4-Day-2-Night,” “Tateyama Kurobe 4-Day-1-Night,” and “Kanazawa Ancient Capital 4-Day-1-Night.” Travelers departing before April 30 can enjoy an adult discount of NT$1,000 and a child discount of NT$750, plus receive a set of crystal pencils.
