Seven Star Ridge Trail in Su'ao Adds New Option to Enjoy Turtle Island and Forest Bathing

The scenic landscapes of the Lanyang Plain have long been a renowned domestic tourist destination, and viewing Yilan and the Pacific Ocean from high ground is one of the most popular ways to experience the area. Following the construction of the observation deck at Nanfang’ao, the Seven Star Ridge Trail and its viewing platform in Su’ao were also completed this month. Once finished, visitors will be able to gaze at the views of the Lanyang Plain and Wubikeng Harbor from the observation deck, as well as take in the expansive seascape of Turtle Island and the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, the trail stretches 4,750 meters in length at an elevation of 230 meters, with lush flowers and trees along the path that offer a perfect summer retreat and forest bathing experience.

Visitors planning to go can take a train to Su’ao Railway Station, and after exiting, walk for about five minutes to reach the entrance of the Seven Star Ridge Hiking Trail located next to Su’ao Cold Spring. Along the trail, you can take in distant views of the Lanyang Plain and Wubikeng landscapes, the majestic seascapes of Turtle Island and the Pacific Ocean, as well as the cultural scenery from Su’ao Port to the Nanfang’ao fishing village, and overlook Cold Spring Park and the living district of Su’ao Town. After descending the mountain, you may choose to retrace your steps or opt to purchase a ticket to enter Su’ao Cold Spring and enjoy the cool natural spring water following your hike.

The Su’ao Seven Star Ridge Trail was constructed in 2003 by the Su’ao Township Office and originally served as a daily hiking spot for local residents. On December 5, 2007, when the jurisdiction of the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area was extended to include Yilan’s coastal region, the Seven Star Ridge Trail was incorporated into the national scenic area and underwent renovations. After trail surface repairs, installation of guardrails and rest platforms, and greening through planting, the entire project was completed this month.
