Taiwan's Top-Tier Imperial Carriage Open for Public Visits – Registration Limited to Today

Taiwan’s railways are home to globally renowned luxury trains such as the "Eurostar" in Europe and the "Rovos Rail" in Africa. Similarly, Taiwan has its own prestigious antique carriages: the "Imperial Carriage," "Governor’s Carriage," and "President’s Carriage." On June 7th, Taiwan Railways (TRA) will open registration for the public to view these national treasures

The 125th Anniversary of Taiwan Railways and the Inaugural Celebration of the New Era of Taiwan Railways were held, offering the public a chance to view the historic carriages known as flower cars, which were manufactured in 1904 and 1912 and have been around for a century. The body structures of these flower cars are made from premium hinoki and teak wood, delivering superior texture and durability. They feature compartment-style cabins, including a living room, attendant room, bedroom, conference room, and Western-style washroom. The interiors are exquisitely adorned and still retain considerable luster and fragrance. The compartment partitions are decorated with floral and bird motifs that are strikingly lifelike. The interiors also boast unique design elements, such as pillow covers embroidered with chrysanthemum petal patterns, butterfly-shaped mirrors, and round windows featuring the “Tai” character motif. The ceiling ventilation windows are inlaid with stained glass, complemented by the unique torpedo-style rooftop vents—altogether showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.
