The search for the Top 101 Highlighted Businesses in Hualien and Taitung Begins

Hualien and Taitung have no shortage of unique local shops, many of which are quite well-known. Starting today, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications is launching a one-month-long “Brighten Hualien and Taitung: 101 Highlighted Pearl Businesses” selection campaign. These businesses are divided into six categories: food, shopping, culture, lifestyle, romance, and ecology. Through online voting (accounting for 15% of the final score) and expert judging, 101 distinctive businesses in the Hualien and Taitung region will be selected to become Highlighted Pearl Businesses.

The online voting period ends at 12:00 noon on August 29, 2012. The public can participate via computer or mobile phone by visiting the official website (http://www.101pearls.com.tw/). Each person can cast up to 10 non-repetitive votes per day, with a chance to win over 200 prizes including tablets, digital cameras, and accommodation vouchers.

For these “Highlighted Pearl Businesses,” the Tourism Bureau will subsequently create various unique travel routes to further showcase the area’s tourism characteristics, offering visitors a different kind of Hualien and Taitung experience. The campaign will also be integrated with the November Taiwan Cycling Festival series and the promotion of classic itineraries to attract both domestic and international tourists to visit the Hualien and Taitung region.
