Challenge the Northeast Monsoon and Win Prizes — Penghu Marathon Registration Now Open

The 2012 "Penghu Marathon" will take place on November 24 at Penghu Guanyin Pavilion. Participants will endure strong northeast monsoons with winds reaching up to force 7 or higher, making it one of the most challenging marathon races in the nation. The event is divided into four categories: full marathon, half marathon, short-distance fun run, and public walk. The full marathon route will pass famous sights such as the Zhongtun Wind Turbines and the Penghu Cross-Sea Bridge. Each category will be awarded trophies, commemorative medals, and certificates, with the first-place finisher in the full marathon receiving a prize of NT$30,000. Registration is open from now until October 25.

The Penghu Marathon has been held for many years, and unlike other marathon events around Taiwan, it is specially scheduled during the winter months when the northeast monsoon is at its strongest. Participants will face winds of over force 7, which serves as a significant test of stamina and perseverance. The event attracts numerous domestic and international runners who love long-distance running and challenging themselves every year.

The event is divided into a full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.0975 km), short-distance fun run (10 km), and public walk (5 km). The full marathon starts at Guanyin Pavilion, follows County Road 203, passes through the Zhongtun Wind Turbines in Baisha Township, crosses the Penghu Cross-Sea Bridge, turns around via the Tongliang Banyan Tree, then returns along County Road 203 via Wada, with the finish line also at Guanyin Pavilion. Registration is open from now until October 25. Registration fees are NT$600 for the full marathon, NT$500 for the half marathon, NT$300 for the short-distance fun run, and a NT$200 deposit for the public walk.
