Changhua Food Festival Challenges World Record with 700-Kilogram Rice Ball

When traveling to Changhua, besides enjoying flower seas, visiting historic sites, and exploring Bagua Mountain, the must-not-miss highlight is Changhua cuisine. The expanded “2012 Changhua Food Festival” will take place on November 18 and December 16, featuring two main events: the creation of the world’s largest rice ball weighing 700 kilograms, and a thousand-person pork rice feast, both aiming to challenge two Guinness World Records and showcase Changhua’s unique rice-based food culture.

The rice ball event on November 18 at 14:00, to be held at Changhua County Stadium, will feature the making of a 700-kilogram rice ball—the largest in the world—and will attempt to break a Guinness World Record. At the same time, there will be an exhibition and sales event for locally produced agricultural specialties, along with performances by celebrity guests from the Kids’ Channel and the local idol group “Flower Young Generation.” On December 16, also at Changhua County Stadium, the pork rice festival will invite a thousand people to Changhua to enjoy rice and flavorful pork made from premium local grains. A thousand-person pork rice feast will be applied for as a Guinness World Record. In addition to offering free tastings of a thousand portions of the dish, the event will also feature live music for attendees.
