The Avenue of Stars, the Dawn Market, and the Sanxiantai First Light Romance Event kick off in succession.

The first ray of sunlight on Taiwan’s main island in 2013 appeared at 6:35 AM on Sanxiantai in Taitung. In response, the Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration of the Tourism Bureau recruited travel enthusiasts, with the first route being a New Year's Day dawn welcome at Sanxiantai. The Eastern Scenic Area Administration will hold the “2013 (Love You for a Lifetime) · Welcome the Happy First Light at East Coast Sanxiantai” event on January 1, 2013 (Year 102). With happiness as the theme, the event will feature a romantic Starlight Avenue created with LED net lights. By walking through this light corridor, you can reach the gravel beach to wait for the first light to appear. This year, a special “2013~2014 Love You (You) for a Lifetime and a Lifetime Promise” cross-year romantic dawn-welcoming event has been planned. Any couple who gets engaged (13 in Chinese sounds like “a lifetime promise”) at the Sanxiantai Lighthouse in 2013 and takes a photo there on New Year’s Day will have a Q-version character portrait drawn for them. Those who return to participate in the New Year’s Day dawn event in 2014 can experience an Amis wedding “Lifetime Promise” (14 in Chinese sounds like “a lifetime vow”) for free. After the wedding experience, they will be awarded a Q-version portrait, symbolizing this lifelong bond. Whether you’re a couple, friends, or family, any group of two can join. There are 130 spots available, and advance phone reservations must be made before December 21.

On New Year’s Day, amid the chilly and dark early morning, fire dance performances are arranged. The flames are magnificent and dazzling, with a stunning effect that is sure to satisfy both visual and auditory senses. Then, welcome the arrival of the first light to the sound of PAW PAW drum music from Pisirian on Sanxiantai. The Eastern Scenic Area Administration has specially arranged a Dawn Market, selling local delicacies, specialties, and hot food, allowing you to replenish your energy at any time. There is also a series of happiness-themed activities on-site: donate two receipts to exchange for a limited-edition postcard saying “I Love You for a Lifetime at Sanxiantai,” where you can write blessings to loved ones far away as you greet the first light. The Eastern Scenic Area Administration will help visitors send this happiness from Sanxiantai for free. Additionally, fill in your information to join the travel enthusiast recruitment event and receive a Dawn Gift LED pen (limited to 1,000 pieces).

 

Lin Weiling, deputy director of the Eastern Scenic Area Administration, stated that to promote the East Coast throughout the year, a travel enthusiast recruitment event has been specially planned. It is hoped that through route point collection, participants can gain a deeper understanding of the East Coast’s unique natural landscapes and tribal characteristics. The routes for this year’s third edition event also include uploading travel mood videos, photos, texts, tribal experience activities, and challenge tasks. Among the more unique routes is visiting the lighthouse at Sanxiantai, where you can enjoy a 270° sea view, experience stargazing, explore tide pools, discover coastal ecosystems, participate in beach bonfire parties, and enjoy tribal cultural experience activities along the route. Currently, as long as you participate in 22 routes planned by the Eastern Scenic Area Administration before the end of November 2013, take photos at the designated spots or as required upon registration, and upload the photos to the event’s official website, you will earn one point. After the event, the top 100 participants with the most points will be awarded a reward of NT$6,000.
