High-speed rail offers discounted bundled tickets with up to 23% off, while Kaohsiung MRT rides are free

For travelers looking to visit Kaohsiung while saving money, Taiwan High Speed Rail, after its “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle” program, has for the first time partnered with Kaohsiung MRT. It will soon launch on December 19 the “High-Speed Rail & MRT Travel Together” bundled ticket, which includes a high-speed rail ticket and a Kaohsiung MRT pass. Taking the “Zhushan–Taipei” route as an example, each set costs just NT$2,860, saving NT$750, equivalent to a 21% discount (or about 7.9% off). The “Zhushan–Tainan” route offers an even greater 23% discount (about 7.7% off). The included Kaohsiung MRT EasyCard can be used for unlimited rides on the MRT, buses, and ferries over two days, allowing easy exploration of Kaohsiung’s famous attractions.

From 12:00 noon on December 19 until June 29, 2013, the public can preorder the “High-Speed Rail & MRT Travel Together” bundled tickets for travel from December 20 to June 30 of the following year via the 7-ELEVEN ibon convenience service kiosks. Each bundle includes a round-trip standard-class reserved seat high-speed rail ticket for the selected journey and a Kaohsiung MRT pass set. The MRT set comes with one MRT stored-value card that allows unlimited rides on the Kaohsiung MRT, buses, and ferries for two days. It also includes a Love River solar-powered boat ticket, a three-hour bicycle rental voucher, and a Dream Mall Ferris wheel ride coupon.

 

This bundled ticket allows reservations for MRT passes up to one month in advance for journeys starting before 5:00 PM daily, and up to one month in advance for journeys starting the day after the next for reservations made after 5:00 PM. The MRT pass must be used within three days of the selected redemption date, while the high-speed rail ticket must be used within four days before the day the MRT pass is first activated.

In addition, from January 3 to April 30, 2013 (excluding peak travel periods), Taiwan High Speed Rail continues to offer a special discount program for university and college students. During this period, students riding standard-class reserved seats on specified off-peak high-speed rail services can enjoy a 50% or 30% discount. Pre-sales are now open.
