Taipei’s Most Electrifying New Year’s Eve Gala Features the Biggest Star-Studded Lineup in Taiwan

The “Taipei’s Most HIGH New Year’s City – 2013 New Year’s Eve Gala” is going to be different this year. Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin stated that the highlights of this year’s gala include the biggest star lineup, the most design-driven energy, the largest global audience of Chinese viewers, and the greatest environmental significance. The gala will be hosted by Patty Hou and HAO BROTHERS, and will feature performances by A-Mei, Aaron Kwok, Jolin Tsai, Harlem Yu, Shin, and A-Lin, promising a concert-scale, most spectacular and electrifying show akin to a performance at Taipei Arena.

In addition to an all-star cast, this year’s gala has specially invited outstanding talents and groups from various fields to take the stage, using the event to spread the power of dreams to people across the nation. These include children with Down syndrome who will deliver a remarkable performance despite their challenges, blind pianist Huang Yuxiang—who won the Golden Horse Award for “Outstanding Taiwanese Film Worker of the Year,” 15 high school students whose song “Kite” garnered 470,000 views online, the women’s tug-of-war world champions from Jingmei Girls’ High School, and the “League of Legends Season 2 World Championship” winners—Taipei Assassins. Together, they will perform “Kite” on stage to encourage everyone to chase their dreams and welcome 2013 with aspirations. Another highlight of this year’s celebration is the introduction of an environmentally friendly message by pioneering a “New Year’s Fashion Movement – Trash Frogman Exercise,” inviting attendees to pick up (and reduce) trash while celebrating in Taipei, showcasing the civic responsibility of participants.

 

The Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism stated that the annual New Year’s Eve Gala at Civic Plaza, combined with the countdown fireworks show at Taipei 101, has become a highly anticipated annual event for people across Taiwan and a focus of international media coverage. CNN has recommended Taipei as one of the “Top 10 Unique New Year’s Cities Around the World.” In addition to TV broadcasts, this year’s gala will also be streamed live on YouTube and Sina.com Beijing, making it the most widely viewed New Year’s Eve celebration among Chinese audiences worldwide.
