Sun Moon Lake Color Harmony Photography Exhibition: Enjoy the Stunning Dawn and Dusk Scenery with Ease

Sun Moon Lake, the most popular tourist attraction in Nantou County, is not only renowned for its beautiful mountain, forest, and lake scenery, but its ever-changing dawn and dusk colors have also made it a pilgrimage site for photography enthusiasts. From now until May 30, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration has invited the Tou She Cultural and Historical Exploration Association to curate the first-quarter exhibition of the 2013 (102nd year) Xiangshan Visitor Center Art Gallery. The association has gathered photography enthusiasts from nearby areas such as Tou She, Yuchi, Puli, and Shuili to jointly present the “Color Harmony Beauty of Sun Moon Lake” photography exhibition. The exhibited works capture the fleeting and ever-evolving beauty of the lake’s colorful hues, which photographers usually chase around the shores of Sun Moon Lake. Visitors can enjoy the splendid dawn and dusk scenery of the lake without having to wake up extremely early or arrive at the lakeside just before sunset.

The photography exhibition is open daily from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The photos were taken at locations including the Xiangshan Visitor Center, the Water Outlet, the Shuishe Dam, the Hanbi Peninsula, the Zhaowu Pier, and the Cien Tower. Among them, the architecture of the Xiangshan Visitor Center blends into the landscape, using landscaping as a frame to bring the beautiful lake and mountain views into visitors' sightlines. Located one kilometer in front of the Xiangshan Visitor Center, the Water Outlet features two trees in the foreground that serve as landmarks. At dawn, morning light ushers in the first rays, and the clear lake surface gleams like glass, while the sky is painted with radiant clouds that spill golden hues across the water, creating a breathtaking spectacle of radiant clouds. The Shuishe Dam is flanked by lush green grass, offering an exceptional view that embraces the waters of both ponds, making it one of the most picturesque spots on the lake.

Along the Hanbi Trail, visitors pass by yacht mooring docks or the four-handed fishing nets by the lake. When mist rolls in, a thin veil of fog locks in the vastness, and the four-handed nets stand out alone, delicately capturing the sounds of birds—a scene full of poetic charm. At the Zhaowu Pier, fog often rises in the early morning, drifting from Jiulongkou and swirling along the mountains and lake surfaces. Sometimes it appears as ethereal as ink-wash art, and other times, a bright white cloud band floats above the mountainside, resembling a landscape painting in a fairyland. The Cien Tower offers the best panoramic view of Sun Moon Lake’s lake and mountain scenery, especially during dawn and sunset. The views shift between rich, bold strokes and freehand ink-wash styles. At these moments, the highest realm is reached when the mountains are no longer just mountains, and the waters are no longer just waters.
