The Sydney Opera House Gets a New Look, Making a Stunning Debut from May 24

When it comes to the Sydney Opera House, the first impression that comes to mind is invariably its unique architecture and pristine white color. But during the “Vivid Sydney” creative arts festival from May 24 to June 10, the Sydney Opera House will don a dazzling new look through stereophonic light and sound effects, showcasing a vibrant exterior that will captivate visitors from around the world. Throughout the festival, over a hundred diverse events will take place in succession, bringing together top creators, fans, and global travelers in fields such as fashion, film, theater, photography, music, animation, architecture, and lighting technology.

The inaugural event in 2009 set a record with 200,000 people flocking to The Rocks and Circular Quay, and in 2012, the Vivid Sydney festival attracted 500,000 visitors. This year, starting on May 24, it will use 3D visual art and stereoscopic light and sound to depict Sydney’s two iconic landmarks—the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge—welcoming visitors from across the globe with 60 spectacular installations.

In addition, various light art installations will be displayed across Sydney’s exhibition venues, sidewalks, and seaside promenades. Live concerts by performing artists from around the world, as well as creative and energetic performances by performance groups and dance troupes, will also be part of the event. This year, Darling Harbour in Sydney will also join in the festivities, offering visitors breathtaking fountain shows, concerts, and large-scale water dance performances in the harbor.
