Established in France in 1954 to cater to the discerning tastes of French elites and aristocrats on holiday, Relais & Châteaux began by inviting only the most exceptional and unique hotels and restaurants to become members. Starting with just eight members in France, it has now grown to include 520 members (445 hotels and 75 independent restaurants) worldwide. Currently, there are three Relais & Châteaux members in Taiwan: Le Moût, founded by acclaimed chef André Chiang, a distinguished Relais & Châteaux chef; Beitou’s Three Two Boutique Hotel; and the newest member as of 2013, Fleur de Chine in Wulai.
The common trait of those invited to join Relais & Châteaux is their small yet refined nature. These hotels and restaurants are not international chains, but they all share a “butler spirit,” offering distinctive, locally inspired service. When you step into a Relais & Châteaux hotel or restaurant, it feels like visiting the home of a like-minded friend. Moreover, Relais & Châteaux places special emphasis on cuisine — no wonder among its 160 “Distinguished Chefs,” the total number of Michelin stars adds up to 350. For Relais & Châteaux, fine dining and pleasure are inseparable; only when the palate is satisfied can the journey be truly enjoyable.

To ensure that guests of Relais & Châteaux can enjoy unforgettable and unique experiences wherever they travel, in addition to the refined, butler-like service provided at their hotels or restaurants, the brand also invites its members to curate custom local travel routes based on their own interpretations—these are called “La Route du Bonheur” (The Road of Happiness). In June 2013, Chef André Chiang of Le Mout Restaurant launched a “Road of Happiness” tailored for Asian travelers, featuring a journey from Keelung, Jiufen, Sanyi, Sun Moon Lake, to Macau. Chef Chiang shared that these were places where she traveled with her child and created happy memories, and now she recommends them to international travelers, hoping everyone can enjoy the warmth of human connection.
Now, the *Relais & Châteaux Travel Guide* has been published in Chinese for the first time. This over 700-page premium travel bible features information on 520 member hotels and restaurants. You can also download the Relais & Châteaux app, which not only provides local weather forecasts, time, and geographical location, but also allows you to directly book rooms and make reservations.
