During the performance, the over 30,000 LED bulbs on Little Qi Chicken continuously shifted through a spectrum of rainbow colors, occasionally accompanied by dramatic dry ice effects that left the audience mesmerized. After the official lighting, the show will be performed every 30 minutes from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The 2017 Taipei Lantern Festival, set to officially open tomorrow (February 4), held its test lighting today. The star of the show, Little Qi Chicken located at Ximending Red House, treated the crowd to a thrilling 3-minute light performance accompanied by energetic music, radiating the spirit of the New Year. In addition, multiple themed lantern zones stretching from Ximending Commercial Circle to Beimen were also unveiled today, drawing crowds who couldn’t resist stopping for photos.

During the display, the over 30,000 LED bulbs on Little Qi Chicken continuously shifted through a spectrum of rainbow colors, occasionally enhanced by dramatic dry ice effects that captivated the audience. After the official lighting, the show will be performed every 30 minutes from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Aside from this year’s highly anticipated main lantern Little Qi Chicken, designed by No2good, he mentioned that this lantern was specially created for the Taipei Lantern Festival. In addition to “Little Qi Chicken,” there are also family members “Victory Bro, Pink Beauty Sis, and Calm Egg,” breaking away from the traditional single-main-lantern format. Each character has a distinct personality and incorporates the youthful vibrancy of Ximending. He also expressed hope that this design would feel closer to the public, and when paired with the theatrical light show created by artist Erma (Feng Jianzhang), it’s sure to be spectacular.

Marking its 20th anniversary, the Taipei Lantern Festival is being held in the Beimen and Zhonghua Road area for the first time. As a result, various unique themed lantern zones can be enjoyed on both sides of Section 1 of Zhonghua Road, or visitors can head to Beimen to catch the stunning light sculpture show, showcasing the century-old charm of the historic gate. In addition, all 12 administrative districts of Taipei are hosting related lantern displays, allowing locals and tourists to experience the magic of the 2017 Taipei Lantern Festival throughout the city.
