Yellow Rubber Duck says goodbye ! Kaohsiung City Government calls on duck fans to wear yellow and send it off

With just 7 days left until the end of the Yellow Rubber Duck exhibition in Kaohsiung, as of yesterday (the 13th), it is estimated that over 3.08 million people have visited. The closing ceremony will be held at 16:00 on October 20. The Kaohsiung City Government is calling on children and adults across Taiwan who love the Yellow Rubber Duck to wear yellow clothing and send the duck off together on the 20th.

News Bureau Director Lai Jui-long stated that in gratitude for the Yellow Rubber Duck’s one-month stay in Kaohsiung, which brought happiness and joy to many, a closing ceremony will be held at 16:00 on October 20 at Glory Pier. Duck fans from all over are especially called upon to wear yellow clothing, the same color as the duck, to send it off together. The exhibition team has also carefully planned performances of the Duck Dance and Swan Dance, allowing everyone to share in the joy of the duck’s growth. Finally, as environmentally friendly yellow balloons slowly ascend into the sky, everyone will say goodbye to the Yellow Rubber Duck together and thank it for bringing a month of surprises and wonderful memories to Taiwan and Kaohsiung.

 

After the closing performance ends at 16:30, the Yellow Rubber Duck will return from Glory Pier to Pier-2 Art Center amidst the horn blasts and water sprays of boats, as well as the cheers of citizens and duck fans. It will then be hoisted ashore, deflated, packed, and other related steps are expected to be completed by 18:00. The duck will remain in Kaohsiung as a memento of this surprising journey. Lai Jui-long also once again invites children and adults who love the duck to make the most of the last 7 days of the Kaohsiung exhibition and enjoy the view of the duck gracefully floating in the vast Kaohsiung Harbor.

 

On weekends during the Yellow Rubber Duck exhibition, the city government provides free shuttle services at Exit 1 of MRT Central Park Station and has designated special public transport lanes. Since their implementation, the results have been positive. On the last weekend of the exhibition, October 19 and 20, the free shuttle buses will depart at 10:00 AM, with increased frequency during peak hours — as often as every 5 minutes — and flexible adjustments made according to the situation. Duck viewers are advised to take the MRT to Central Park Station and transfer to the shuttle bus to Glory Pier.

 

In addition, the two inner lanes of Youth Road (from Zhonghua Road to Haibian Road) in both directions, and the westbound inner lane of Youth Road (from Zhongshan Road to Zhonghua Road) have been designated as public transport lanes. Except for shuttles, coaches, buses, taxis, and emergency vehicles, other vehicles are prohibited from using these lanes. Left turns by cars are not allowed at intersections along the route. The city government urges everyone to use public transportation when heading to Glory Pier to see the duck.
