Find peace of mind with sesame oil here！ Tainan Sesame Culture Festival kicks off on November 9

Amidst the nationwide controversy over edible oil safety, as the public worries about choosing the right cooking oil, the “2013 Tainan Sesame Industry Culture Festival” will take place from November 9 to 24. Jointly organized by the Siansi, Sihcao, and Anding districts, the festival will make its grand opening on November 9 and 10 in Siansi District. The event will feature activities such as cycling tours through sesame fields, challenge game booths, exhibitions showcasing achievements of local community development, as well as live cooking demonstrations of popular sesame oil dishes—guaranteeing 100% pure, naturally rich sesame aroma that has undergone rigorous inspection procedures to satisfy both the stomach and the heart.

Additionally, the Anding District Farmers' Association and local government office will host an event from 10:00 to 14:00 on November 16 at Tainan’s Dadong Night Market, featuring the sale of sesame products and local agricultural specialties, sampling of sesame dishes such as sesame chicken congee, and hands-on DIY activities. The Sihcao District Farmers' Association will also showcase a series of sesame extract skincare products. On November 23 and 24, the Farmers' Association’s Houying Warehouse will offer a variety of fun activities, including the “Sesame Ring Toss,” “Sesame Sister’s Sunny Doll DIY,” sampling of sesame chicken and sesame noodles, the “Green Corn Maze,” and “Community Traditional Toys DIY.” This year, the Sihcao District Farmers’ Association will also open up the oil pressing site for public viewing, ensuring participants can eat, play, and take home souvenirs.

 

Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te pointed out that Tainan is the most important sesame producing area in Taiwan, with the largest sesame planting area in the country. The sesame oil is directly sourced locally, ensuring guaranteed quality. Nationwide, the total sesame planting area is 831 hectares, of which Tainan accounts for 709 hectares, making up 85% of the total. The national annual sesame production is 620 metric tons, with Tainan producing 550 metric tons—accounting for 89%. The sesame oil is produced from sesame planted by local farmers, undergoes 100% extraction and refining, and is rigorously tested by the farmers' associations, guaranteeing high-quality sesame oil and pure oil.
