"Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above," directed and shot by aerial photographer Chi Po-lin, produced by Hou Hsiao-hsien, narrated by Wu Nien-jen, and scored by Ricky Ho, is a documentary that condenses a total of 400 hours of helicopter flight time into 93 minutes. With a production cost of nearly one hundred million New Taiwan dollars, it is arguably the most expensive documentary ever made in Taiwan. Director Chi Po-lin spent nearly three years filming, flying over the entire island of Taiwan. The film presents Taiwan from an entirely new and breathtaking aerial perspective — showcasing the island on the big screen as audiences have never seen it before, in a way that is both familiar and unfamiliar.
