【Wednesday Deal】Taiwan High-Speed Rail Offers 8% Off on Off-Peak Weekday Trains

Taiwan High-Speed Rail is about to celebrate its seventh anniversary of operation in January 2014. To thank passengers for their support, starting after the Lunar New Year in 2014, the "8% Off on Specified Off-Peak Weekday Trains" promotion will be launched during off-peak hours from Monday to Thursday. On weekdays, about one-third of the trains are eligible for the discount, totaling 92 southbound and 80 northbound trains per week — 172 trains in total — representing 18% of the weekly total departures (954 trains).

 

The high-speed rail company currently offers over ten types of promotional programs, with nearly 31,000 passengers per day benefiting from discounts ranging from 40% to 95%. The "Early Bird Double Discount" and "Senior Citizen Special" expanded discount programs, launched on October 8, will also be extended until December 31, 2014.

 

Under the 8% Off on Specified Off-Peak Weekday Trains promotion, starting March 13, 2014, passengers who purchase standard class reserved seat full-fare tickets for trains departing between 9:00 AM and 11:36 AM, as well as after 8:00 PM on weekdays (Monday to Thursday), will receive an 8% discount. Tickets can be purchased starting February 14 via the 24-hour Taiwan High-Speed Rail online booking system, convenience store ticketing services, T Express mobile app, telephone booking, or at station ticket vending machines and counters during operating hours. Passengers purchasing group tickets for full-fare seats can enjoy a 95% discount, plus an additional 8% discount, resulting in a final discount of 13% off the full fare (equivalent to 87% of the original price).

 

In addition, passengers using specified bank credit cards to purchase tickets and enjoy the "Limited Upgrade to Business Class Discount" or "Standard Class Fare Discount" can also apply the Off-Peak Weekday Train discount. Among these, the "Standard Class Fare Discount" offers a maximum discount of up to 22% off the full fare. However, the Off-Peak Weekday Train discount does not apply to tickets under the "Early Bird Discount," "College Student Discount," "Senior Citizen Discount," "30-Person Group Discount," "School Excursion Group Discount," various event packages, or transportation combo tickets.
