With last week’s warmer temperatures, the iconic "King Cherry Blossom" of Alishan reached full bloom. Breezes swept through, creating a stunning "cherry blossom snow" spectacle that left visitors in awe. Popular spots like the police station front, Zhushan Station, and the Alishan Hotel were crowded with tourists admiring the blooming Yoshino cherries. Visitors are curious how long the Somei Yoshino blossoms will last—typically around 7 to 10 days, depending on the weather. Strong winds or rain can shorten their blooming period.

In addition to the showy Somei Yoshino cherries, Alishan National Forest Recreation Area boasts a variety of cherry species. After the Somei Yoshino’s peak, the star-shaped Okame cherry marks the end of single-petal blooms. By late March, double-petal varieties take over, including weeping cherries, Takasago cherries, Benzaiten cherries, Kanzan cherries, Benihana, Kirin cherries, Goshiki cherries, Ichihara cherries, Tulipa cherries, and Wanli Xiang. Flower enthusiasts should seize the spring season to visit Alishan National Forest Recreation Area and admire the diverse colors and forms of these blossoms.

Families visiting to enjoy the flowers together can take advantage of the Children’s Day special offer from April 4 to 6, when children under 12 enter for free. The Forestry Bureau’s Chiayi Forest Management Office has also launched the innovative "Alishan Cherry Blossom Adventure—Mobile Guide APP" for the first time this year. Currently available for both iOS and Android, users can download the app by searching "Alishan Cherry Blossom Adventure" on the App Store or Google Play. The app helps visitors identify cherry varieties in the park, provides real-time updates on popular flower-viewing routes, latest events, and blossom conditions, and even allows trip planning using temperature, sunrise times, and forest railway schedules.
