Unexpected situations are inevitable when traveling abroad, such as lost luggage or delayed baggage from the carousel. Especially with the rise of low-cost carriers and backpackers, many travelers aim for faster clearance and have started using certain methods to quickly retrieve their luggage and avoid unnecessary trouble.

1. Declare fragile items
When preparing to check in your luggage, inform the staff if it contains fragile items and ask them to attach a fragile tag. This not only provides an extra layer of protection but usually ensures that fragile items are loaded last and unloaded first upon arrival.
 
2. Check in at the last minute
Passengers who check in last will typically have their luggage loaded onto the plane last and placed on the outermost part. As a result, it will be one of the first to be taken off and placed on the conveyor belt.

3. Fly business or first class
Luggage belonging to business or first-class passengers is usually separated and given priority during unloading. Being a VIP customer or member of the airline’s mileage club also comes with this perk. 

4. Double-check for prohibited items
Before checking in, make sure there are no prohibited items, including knives, sharp objects, firearms, lithium batteries, lighters, etc. If any are found, they will be singled out for inspection, delaying your clearance.

p.s. Temporary check-in at the gate

Sometimes due to various factors, you may have too many carry-on items and no space left in the overhead bins. Staff may ask at the gate if you want to check your luggage — but this is only for emergencies, as it otherwise burdens ground crew.
