2014 Gongliao International Marine Music Festival in New Taipei City
The biggest event in northern Taiwan this weekend is undoubtedly the Gongliao Marine Music Festival. This year marks the 15th edition of the Gongliao Sea Festival, with the theme “come together.” The festival’s charm was so strong that even a typhoon joined in. Although Typhoon Rumbia did not make landfall in Taiwan, Fulong Beach and on-site facilities were still affected by wind and waves. Prioritizing public safety, the New Taipei City Tourism Bureau postponed the original schedule by one day, holding the five-day marathon music extravaganza from July 10 (Thursday) to July 14 (Monday).

July 12 (Saturday) features the festival’s highlight, the “Marine Independent Music Awards,” where the top 10 competing bands will battle for the highest honor. Also returning to the stage are “Chiu Yu Le Band” and “FLUX,” winners of the 2013 “Marine Star”; “Dark White Collar Class,” winners of the 2013 “Judges’ Grand Prize”; “TRASH,” winners of the 2013 “Marine Independent Music Awards”; and closing the night is festival veteran Lü Guangzhong, symbolizing the passing on of the festival spirit. On July 13, the theme is “Rock Across the Oceans,” representing music without borders and the opportunity for bands to learn and connect through music. The lineup includes Australia’s Elliot the Bull, Sweden’s Her Bright Skies, India’s Indian Ocean, Madagascar’s Kilema, Canada’s Your Favorite Enemies, and Taiwanese rock diva A-Mei as the closing act. With big names every day and thrilling performances all around, this year’s sea festival is definitely not to be missed！
2014Nantou Train Festival
Now an annual highlight, the Nantou Train Festival has become a much-anticipated summer event since its launch in 2007. The 2014 Nantou Train Festival will grandly open on July 13 (Sunday)！ This year, besides inviting well-known local figures and artists to paint trains showcasing different views of Jiji, the Nantou County Government has also specially invited the popular picture book “Little Bear School,” with its twelve little bears as special guests, encouraging both kids and adults to join the bears for a fun and memorable summer adventure in Nantou.

Every year at the Nantou Train Festival, classic steam locomotives are a magnet for rail fans. This year, visitors who stay at any licensed accommodation in Nantou during the event period will have the chance to ride for free. Taking a steam train through the scenic Jiji area promises a unique experience. Photography enthusiasts can also compete for cash prizes by submitting photos related to the 2014 Nantou Train Festival. Families visiting with children during the holiday can sing and dance with celebrity entertainers like Banana Brother and Rainbow Sister. You might even bump into mini-celebrity train conductors, Little Mark and the youngest twin hosts Lele & Z??? who will lead kids on train rides, offer souvenirs, snacks, and introduce local specialties.
Tainan Qigu Sightseeing Clam Garden Invites You to “Dig for Clams and Wash Your Pants”
Organized by the Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau, co-hosted by the Taijiang National Park Headquarters and the Yunlin-Kaohsiung-Tainan Coastal National Scenic Area Administration, and hosted by the Qigu District Office, the “Tainan Qigu Seafood Festival” kicks off on July 12 (Saturday) at Liukeng Pier with the “Qigu Sightseeing Clam Garden & Clam Digging Experience.” The day also features the Sanci Agricultural and Fishery Specialty Culture Festival, Taijiang Water Recreation Activities, a Fresh Seafood Market, and sightseeing boat experiences.
