Can you imagine 200 citizens dressed up boarding an MRT car to enjoy classical music inside? To celebrate the upcoming opening of the Songshan Line, the Taipei City Government has specially launched the “Good Luck Taipei Full Experience Plan”, and has transformed the train cars into a classical music hall, using creative ways to let the public experience the limitless possibilities the MRT brings to the city.

Since its inauguration in 1996, the Taipei MRT has been in service for 18 years. During these 18 years, the MRT has become more than just a means of transportation for residents in the Greater Taipei area — it is a lifestyle, a civic culture of friendliness and order, a guarantee of quality and efficiency, and has realized the vision of free movement within the city. The “Good Luck Taipei Full Experience Plan” hopes that all friends will come together to experience the innovation and service of the Taipei MRT.

While announcing the “Good Luck Taipei Full Experience Plan”, the Taipei City Government invited 200 citizens to attend one of Taipei’s coolest late-night concerts. All 200 citizens were dressed up for the occasion, and when this special group of VIPs entered the MRT station, it caused quite a stir among other commuters and became the most unique sight in the station. The MRT car concert featured performances by Muse Step Clay, Hu Daji Crossover Band, and violinist Gu Changping. The train traveled from Xiangshan Station to Beitou, with the car turned into a classical music hall where a blend of Eastern and Western instruments — including cello, violin, erhu, and tenor — were performed. The 36-minute concert reached its climax with the final song “Night Fragrance”, giving all participants an unforgettable MRT ride experience. This first-ever MRT car concert by Taipei Metro will also be made into a promotional video, hoping to show the world the romance and creativity of Taipei through the footage.

The “Good Luck Taipei Full Experience Plan” will also officially kick off in November! On November 1st, the “Taipei MRT Film” and “Show Us Your MRT Shots” online submission campaigns will launch first, inviting the public to capture their own MRT experiences and scenery. The aim is to encourage people to turn the most beautiful and unique images of the Taipei MRT in their hearts into photos or short videos. Simply upload and share for a chance to win great prizes like an iPhone 6. Starting November 15th, physical experience activities will be added, including “Welcome to Visit” for people from other counties/cities and “Urban Micro-Tour” for Taipei residents, inviting everyone to experience the convenience of Taipei’s MRT network and explore the beauty of Taipei through an eco-friendly, low-carbon one-day travel style. There will be 10,000 limited spots to invite people from other counties/cities to stay overnight in Taipei, ride the MRT, and experience the city. Just book and stay at the campaign’s partner hotels during the event period to receive an MRT card, and you can also collect stamps at MRT stations to redeem limited-edition souvenirs of the internet-famous “Shuangshuang Cat”.
The “Urban Micro-Tour” is a special gift exclusively for Taipei residents. The Tourism and Communications Bureau stated that usually, citizens take the MRT for fixed purposes and along fixed routes, but to allow residents to better understand the extendibility of the MRT network and the convenience of transfers, a special “Urban Micro-Tour” has been planned for Taipei residents. As long as you are a Taipei resident, you can sign up for a free one-day MRT tour group. There are four different themed routes, and each comes with a guide who will introduce the features around the MRT stations, emerging attractions, or popular shopping areas. There are 5,000 limited spots for the Urban Micro-Tour, and interested members of the public are welcome to check the event’s official website for details.
