National Opera House Light Art Festival: A Magical Night of Light, Dance, and Sound in Taichung

To celebrate the completion of the "National Taichung Theater," designed by renowned Japanese architect Toyo Ito, the Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau specially organized a light art exhibition, "The Opera House Light Art Festival – Fantastical Metamorphosis," featuring a series of events from November 1 to December 31, lasting two months. In addition to the stunning"3D light projection art" displayed on the exterior walls of the Opera House, there will also be an outdoor "interactive light art installation"at the Opera House for two months, both curated and executed by the creative brand Sabakama. The light art festival combines the architectural form of the Opera House to create breathtaking sound, light, and landscape interactive art.

Fantastical Metamorphosis reinterprets artistic creation with the boundless tension of transformation and rebirth, ushering in a new era of visual art. The on-site displays combine music, light, digital media, video, and interactive artworks, allowing visitors to experience a variety of stunning sound and light as well as landscape art, embarking on a magical audiovisual journey after nightfall.

The series of events include the stunning "3D light projection" on the exterior walls of the Opera House, as well as the impressive outdoor "interactive light art installations." This internationally significant cultural event, paired with the National Taichung Theater — known as the ninth new landmark in the world — perfectly unveils the inauguration of the National Taichung Theater.

∞ Waves INFINTE WAVES
An electronic time tunnel created from repurposed shipping containers. Stepping into this uniquely designed space feels like entering a constantly expanding multidimensional realm, where each step triggers a sound and light response from the floor panels via sensors, creating an energizing atmosphere.
Light Reed WINDIODE
Electronic reeds sway gently in the wind while slowly changing the color of their tips, presenting a poetic scene. Sabakama’s design director, Anthony Soames, mentioned that this interactive artwork is a favorite among Taichung residents.

Projecting visually stunning 3D light sculptures onto the 120-meter-wide exterior wall of the National Theater. Created by Sabakama Creative, featuring Delta Electronics' world-class projection technology, and live interactive performances with the Mikey International Orchestra. Through narrative techniques, it brings to life a dialogue between art, nature, evolution, and organic architecture, interpreting the theater’s rich design essence and the profound cultural heritage of Greater Taichung.
