The first train of the nation's first "Kaohsiung Circular Light Rail Transit" began test operations on November 9, marking a new milestone for the Kaohsiung Light Rail. From November 9 to 16, the public can visit between 2 PM and 5 PM.

The first phase of the circular light rail spans approximately 8.7 kilometers, with a total project cost of 5.679 billion NTD. It is planned to have 36 stations and one depot. The trains are about 34 meters long and 2.65 meters wide, with a capacity of around 250 passengers. They feature a 100% low-floor design and a catenary-free system to create a more user-friendly riding environment. The route starts from the Qianzhen Train Yard, connecting to Kaixuan New Realm, Dream Mall, Kaohsiung Software Technology Park, Asia New Bay Area, and Pier-2 Art Center, ending at the MRT Xiziwan Station.

Kaohsiung City Government stated that the Kaohsiung Light Rail has a total length of 22.1 kilometers, with an overall project budget of approximately 16.5 billion NTD. The entire line adopts the world’s latest catenary-free system, minimizing the impact on urban scenery while preserving the city’s beautiful, open skyline. The 100% low-floor carriages are designed for seamless platform boarding, making it more convenient for the elderly and people with disabilities to get on and off.

Regarding the train carriages, the arrangement and number of seats and handrails have been designed with consideration for passenger habits. The doors use a sliding plug design, with four entrances on each side of the train. Each door has a clear opening width of 1.3 meters, allowing for quick and convenient passenger access and greater accessibility.
