To showcase the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year, the western exterior wall of the Taipei City Government Main Building has specially displayed a giant Spring Festival couplet written by calligrapher Master Chang Mu-hsi, reading “A new world emerges — dreams turn into reality.” In addition to promoting the upcoming Taipei Lunar New Year Street Fair, the city government also hopes to present a new image of Taipei as an “efficient government with a speedy team.” The Tourism and Communications Bureau stated that “A new world emerges” symbolizes Taipei’s fresh image and urban spirit of “a new beginning where everything is renewed,” while “dreams turn into reality” represents the deep expectations of Taipei citizens toward the municipal government, hoping that all their aspirations can come true.

The Taipei Lunar New Year Street Fair, which began in 1996 (the 85th year of the Republic of China), is entering its 20th year this year, becoming the most iconic festive event in Taipei during the Lunar New Year. This year,it is expected to kick off with great fanfare from February 4 to February 17. Visitors to the street fair can not only find snacks, dried and preserved goods, and traditional Chinese medicine ingredients, but also admire the classic architecture of Dihua Street. It not only satisfies the shopping needs of citizens during the holiday season but is also a must-visit commercial area for those strolling around during the New Year.

Due to the demands of many citizens and traditional New Year customs, the advisory team suggested that Mayor Ko Wen-je continue the tradition of printing Spring Festival couplets for the public to collect. They specially invited calligrapher Chang Mu-hsi to write the auspicious phrase “A new world emerges — dreams turn into reality,” which was then made into a giant couplet and displayed on the western exterior wall of the Taipei City Government Main Building, presenting a refreshed and renewed festive vibe. The couplet will be printed and completed before the Lunar New Year, and will then be placed at district offices, household registration offices, and other locations for members of the public to collect when conducting business.
