Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants – Taiwan’s RAW, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Taipei, and MUME Make the List

The “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants” list, organized by UK-based William Reed Business Media, was announced on February 21, 2017. In addition to Taichung’s L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Taipei (No. 28, up from No. 30 last year) and RAW (No. 24, up from No. 46 last year) moving up in the rankings, another Taiwanese restaurant has made its debut on the list — the European-cuisine focused MUME, which ranked No. 43. Meanwhile, RAW also won the award for “Taiwan’s Best Restaurant.”

Securing No. 24 and the title of “Taiwan’s Best Restaurant” is already an impressive achievement for André Chiang, but his Singapore-based Restaurant André has climbed even higher, moving from No. 3 last year to No. 2 this year, second only to three-time champion Gaggan. It also won the award for “Singapore’s Best Restaurant.” Additionally, Burnt Ends, another restaurant led by André Chiang, achieved an outstanding ranking of No. 10.

L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Taipei, opened by Irene Li in Taichung, has been on the list for four consecutive years, with rankings of No. 24 in 2014, No. 26 in 2015, No. 30 in 2016, and No. 28 in 2017, demonstrating its strong reputation. RAW, known as one of the hardest restaurants to book in Taiwan, made the list just one year after opening at No. 46, then jumped to No. 24 the following year and also claimed the title of “Taiwan’s Best Restaurant.” Reservations may become even harder to secure in the future.

MUME, a new European-style restaurant with four chefs, has remained popular since opening at the end of 2014. After being selected as one of Asia’s 101 Best Restaurants and one of the World’s 1000 Best Restaurants, it has finally broken into the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, ranking No. 43.
