Daytime parasol trees, nighttime fireflies – camping in Nanzhuang, Miaoli is all the rage

As spring transitions into summer and flowers bloom in full splendor, the most beautiful "May snow" of tung blossoms may have quietly reached its end, but in Nanzhuang, Miaoli, you can still witness the breathtaking sight of snow-white blooms covering the mountains. Paired with the woodland sprites — fireflies — dancing freely in the woods during early summer nights, besides one-day tours, camping has also become increasingly popular recently. If you visit Nanzhuang, check out the Linquan Camping Area to temporarily escape the hustle and bustle of the city, slow down your travel pace, and enjoy a weekend rendezvous with tung blossoms and fireflies.

The Nanzhuang Linquan Camping Area — “Linquan” refers to the realm of forested mountains and springs. As the name suggests, it aims to offer travelers a serene retreat for relaxation and spiritual rejuvenation. With its emerald-green lawns and dense woodlands, it allows everyone to immerse themselves in nature, wander through the forest, and return to the calmest state of mind. The Linquan campsite is located within the Nanjiang Leisure Agriculture Area in Nanzhuang. The park is home to over 40-year-old precious Taiwan incense cedar tree clusters, cherry blossom woods, maple trees, camellia trees, as well as expansive surrounding tung blossom forests. In spring, the "May snow" blankets the white mountain slopes; in summer, the “fire gold ladies” (fireflies) keep you company as you sleep; in autumn, cicadas chirp amid red maples; in winter, cherry blossoms and camellias compete in beauty — each season brings a different landscape. Currently, the tung blossoms are in full bloom, and until May 15th, the park enforces a nighttime lights-out policy, allowing visitors to see thousands of fireflies fluttering through the woods, their glowing lights creating a truly breathtaking spectacle.
