Wandering Morocco: A Journey Filled with Exoticism in Search of Life’s Meaning

Seventeen-year-old Ben accompanies his father to Marrakech, Morocco, where his dad has a theater performance. But to Ben, his father is as foreign as the country of Morocco itself. The constant arguments along the way eventually lead to a complete rift between them. Ben then embarks on a solo journey. He becomes enchanted by this beautiful city until he meets Karima, and decides to return with her to her distant hometown in the Atlas Mountains.

On their way home, Ben and Karima encounter many wonderful things. Their love seems to become fearless, allowing them to explore a world of their own during this romantic journey. And when misunderstandings are resolved, Ben and his father rediscover each other, reclaiming the long-lost bond of father and son.

This film is also a family drama directed by German female director Caroline Link, eleven years after her Oscar-winning foreign language film "Nowhere in Africa." It explores the beautiful country of Morocco through the rebellious spirit of a teenager, featuring a story full of adventures and romantic love, set against magnificent and stunning landscapes. It is an exotic youth film that is both deeply educational and focused on the journey of self-discovery.

Director Introduction   Oscar-winning Director Caroline Link

 
The renowned German female director Caroline Link graduated from the Munich Film and Television Academy. Early in her career, she directed the children's TV short film "Kalle der Träumer," which established her focus on themes of childhood, youth growth, and family relationships.
 
In 1995, her first self-written and directed feature film "Beyond Silence" was nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, earning high praise from international critics and gaining her international fame. In 1999, her adaptation of the best-selling novel "Annaluise and Anton" won awards such as the Bavarian Film Award for Best Children's Film and the Chicago International Children's Film Festival Best Film. In 2001, "Nowhere in Africa" brought her career as a director to its peak, winning the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film as well as the German Film Award for Best Director. Her 2008 drama "A Year Ago in Winter" also won the Bavarian Film Award for Best Director.

"Wandering Morocco" is the director’s fifth feature film, inspired by her multiple travel experiences in Morocco. Using her expertise in portraying family bonds, combined with the exotic charm of Morocco, she created a moving and heartfelt coming-of-age film that has received critical acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was released in Taiwan on May 29, 2015.
