A Half-Century-Old Taipei Hotel Transforms into a Graffiti-Filled Backpacker Hostel

Walking through the alleys near Zhongshan Station in Taipei, many are deeply drawn to an industrial-style graffiti building. The "I’m Inn Taipei," renovated from an old hotel, retains historical traces while striving to create a space filled with the warmth of Taiwanese hospitality.

I’m Inn Taipei was formerly the Kowloon Hotel, which had been in operation for 46 years. Its manager was an elderly woman in her 80s who had no successor, and the hotel was on the verge of closing. It was then leased by the Fu Hwa Hospitality Group, which commissioned the C.M. Yen Architectural Firm and a design team from Shih Chien University to carry out a complete renovation, targeting the backpacker market. During the renovation, the original marble walls, brick walls, and golden staircase railings of the old Kowloon Hotel were preserved, allowing guests to experience the former hotel’s unique character and legacy.
