Top 10 Ice Creams in Kaohsiung Announced – Fresh Fruit Soft Serve Claims the Crown

On a hot summer day, nothing beats a cool treat to beat the heat. The Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau held the “Kaohsiung Top 10 Ice Creams Online Voting Campaign.” After nearly a month of fierce online voting and nearly 100,000 votes, the top ten winning ice treats have been revealed, featuring a variety of selections including ice cream, soft serve, shaved ice, snowflake ice, and slushies. Everyone is invited to come enjoy these icy delights and explore Kaohsiung.

The “Kaohsiung Top 10 Ice Creams Online Voting Campaign,” which ran from July 20 to August 16 over a 28-day period, saw intense competition among a total of 42 ice shops. In the end, through online voting, “Crown Ice City” claimed the top spot with 13,019 votes. The selected top 10 shops include “Crown Ice City” and “That Handmade Soft Serve,” which insists on using fresh, made-to-order fruit soft serve every day. There’s also “Chih-Ah Ice City,” chosen for its nostalgic-style wheat tea shaved ice; “Samsung Garden Matcha 'Japanese Tea's Specialty & More'” and “Soso Duo,” which captivate with their rich foreign flair and traditional Japanese flavors like Yuzhenjinshi. There’s also “Soso Duo,” known for its “Popcorn Snow Slush”; “Deer Grassland,” which quietly maintains its nostalgic flavor with its grass shaved ice; “That Era Almond Tofu Ice,” which earned high praise for its nostalgic almond tofu and handmade pudding; as well as “Dongmen Teahouse,” which offers portable preserved fruit cooling tea (or juice). A wide variety of icy treats bloom forth, showcasing the coolest and most uniquely Kaohsiung flavors.

A father-and-son team created this grass-flavored ice shop, named after their hometown, Lucao Township in Chiayi County. Their signature dish, Deer Grass Shaved Ice, uses fresh alfalfa, giving it a green hue and a grassy taste with a hint of sugarcane sweetness—different from regular shaved ice and full of creativity.
