With the inauguration of the Taiwan Railways Pingtung Base, the railway operator also plans a major adjustment on October 15 to boost transport capacity. Around 200 train services will see schedule changes, the number of cars on mid-section regional trains will increase from 4 to 8, and there will be more commuter services in the south. In addition, Taiwan Railways is considering introducing a “Taipei-Kaohsiung non-stop” Puyuma Express, which is expected to reduce travel time by about one hour compared to the current Tze-Chiang Limited Express.

The Taiwan Railways Pingtung Base will be inaugurated in October. In addition, 296 EMU1200 “Smiling Trains” and 4 tilting train sets are also scheduled to enter service before the end of the year after delivery. Along with the opening of the double-track electrified high-elevation line in Pingtung’s Chaozhou Station, Taiwan Railways is making major adjustments to enhance capacity. These include changing the origin station of western line trains from Kaohsiung to Chaozhou, increasing the number of stops in Pingtung County from the current 60 to over 107, and raising the number of southern commuter trains from 40–50 to over 100. The total number of adjusted services will reach 200.
