In late autumn Japan, not only are the beautiful maple leaves painted red, but the ginkgo trees turning from green to golden are equally dazzling. If you're in bustling Tokyo and want to enjoy ginkgo trees, consider taking a train from Shinjuku to visit Hachiōji City, where a stunning 4-kilometer-long ginkgo avenue shines brightly. Starting from November 21 for two consecutive days, the area will also host a Ginkgo Festival to celebrate the arrival of this fairy-tale-like golden ginkgo scenery.

Starting from Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station, it takes just 45 minutes by train to reach Hachiōji City. Every year from mid-November, the streets here are dyed in brilliant golden hues as the ginkgo trees change color. From Takao Station in Hachiōji City to Oiwakecho, around 770 ginkgo trees have lined both sides of the road since the early Showa period, stretching continuously for 4 kilometers. The dazzling golden tunnel feels like stepping into a fairy-tale world.

Additionally, the annual Hachiōji Ginkgo Festival is expected to take place on November 21 and 22. In addition to activities such as a rural market, food stalls, and street performers, there will also be a classic car parade featuring vintage cars preserved since the Showa era, allowing visitors to enjoy a nostalgic, retro city atmosphere against the golden autumn backdrop.
