According to statistics, nearly 12,000 miners around the world lose their lives in mining accidents each year, but the 2010 "Chile Mine Disaster" unexpectedly rewrote a new chapter in the scale of human survival and rescue. These 33 unsung heroes from all walks of life, most of whom had little education, demonstrated an indomitable will to survive and mutual trust among comrades when disaster struck, shining with the most precious light of humanity. This rescue operation is considered one of the largest in history, with a difficulty level even greater than movies like Everest and 127 Hours. Just when people thought the miners' chances were slim, the incident garnered generous support from around the globe—from NASA in the U.S. to the Chilean Navy submarine unit—pooling the world's latest technology and top experts to save lives, unwavering in their commitment to not give up a single precious life. It was this spirit of "never giving up" that allowed these 33 miners to endure 69 days in harsh conditions of 32°C and 95% humidity, ultimately surviving altogether.

33: The Resurrection Miracle is a new film adaptation of this true event. The plot depicts August 5, 2010, when the century-old San José Mine awaited the arrival of miners as usual. They said goodbye to their families and entered the mine just like any other day; the only difference was that the mine suddenly collapsed in the afternoon, trapping 33 miners 700 meters below ground. While helplessly waiting for rescue from above, they also struggled with their own inner fears. The mine shift foreman Mario (played by Antonio Banderas) decided to step up, leading his 32 discouraged companions, using the remaining biscuits and canned food to hold onto the fading hope. They didn’t want to be seen as heroes by the world—they just wanted to make it home safely...

The film is produced by the Oscar-winning producer of Black Swan, with plot planning by the Golden Globe-nominated screenwriter of The Motorcycle Diaries. It is also one of the final works by the late Oscar-winning composer of Titanic, and features the visual effects team of The Amazing Spider-Man to recreate the shocking collapse during the mine disaster. With an award-winning production team, plus a stellar cast including Antonio Banderas and Juliette Binoche, the film premiered globally in Chile on August 6, not only topping the box office in its first week but also breaking the Chilean box office record for opening day, ranking second in all-time opening day earnings in Chilean film history.
