Belgium Brussels Terror Attack: Taoyuan Airport Tightens Security, Advises Passengers to Arrive 2.5 Hours Early

On March 22, a series of explosions occurred at Brussels Airport and a metro station in Belgium, resulting in heavy casualties and drawing international attention. Travelers planning to visit Belgium are advised to stay alert—Belgian authorities have deployed military and police forces on the streets and have raised the national terror alert level to the highest (Level 4).

Following recent terror attacks in Turkey and Belgium, Taoyuan Airport has tightened security measures. In addition to enhanced screening procedures, the Aviation Police Office has increased patrols and vigilance at the airport, and heightened security across terminals. To cope with improved anti-terrorism operations and security checks, travelers are advised to check in at the airport counter 2.5 hours before departure to avoid delays. During peak travel seasons, arriving even earlier is strongly recommended for added peace of mind.
Belgium recently conducted anti-terrorism raids, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has maintained the travel advisory for Belgium at the 'Yellow' level. The Ministry of Transportation reminds Taiwanese citizens, expatriates, and students planning to travel to Belgium (especially the Brussels area) for business or tourism in the near future to remain vigilant in public places or crowded areas, pay close attention to personal safety, and avoid crowded locations such as shopping malls, large event venues, airports, and train stations. It is also advisable to avoid using enclosed modes of transportation such as the metro.
