The "Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area," officially opened in 1994, is turning 22. To celebrate Aowanda’s birthday and encourage people to experience its beauty in all seasons, the Nantou Forest District Office will offer an entrance fee of just NT$10 for all visitors on the day (July 1). On July 2 and 3, half-price admission will be available.

Located in a mid-altitude mountainous region, Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area offers different charms in every season—cherry blossoms in spring, waterfalls in summer, moonlight in autumn, and maple leaves in winter, each with its own unique appeal. Nowadays, Aowanda is especially lively, with butterflies fluttering, insects chirping, eagles soaring and singing, mountain birds playing, frogs croaking joyfully, and Taiwan lilies with their large white trumpet-shaped blooms dotting the landscape, blooming vibrantly and swaying gracefully in the breeze, adding a special summer vibe. Especially popular is the “Waterfall Area Trail,” which opened in February 2016. It allows visitors to admire spectacular waterfalls and double-fall views while enjoying an abundance of negative ions from the falls and high concentrations of forest phytoncides, beneficial for health and wellness. It has received high praise, and visitors can’t bear to leave.
