Class 1-1 is back in session: A café tucked away in a school

Inside an elementary school classroom, what’s written on the large blackboard isn’t the teacher’s lesson plan but today’s special menu and the sources of the ingredients. This is “Hare to Ke Café t2” located in Tokushima, Japan—a café created from a long-abandoned elementary school campus. It offers visitors the chance to enjoy coffee while reminiscing about their childhood, all within the nostalgic surroundings of a schoolyard.

The owner of Hare to Ke Café t2 is a designer from Tokyo. His father is a coffee master, his mother is a pastry researcher, and his sister is a French patissier. The whole family worked together in 2014 to create this uniquely themed café, offering their own roasted coffee and signature dishes made with local ingredients.
