Good news for Japan lovers as the yen weakens, falling below 107 yen per US dollar on the morning of the 21st, marking a new one-and-a-half-month low against the New Taiwan Dollar. Taiwan Bank’s listed exchange rate saw the cash selling price of the yen briefly reach 0.3008 NTD, meaning one New Taiwan Dollar could buy 3.3244 yen in cash. Whether the yen will further break through the 0.3 NTD mark is also drawing close attention.

The Bank of Japan is expected to hold an interest rate decision meeting on the 28th and 29th. Most economists anticipate that the Bank of Japan will introduce easing measures, possibly along with fiscal and monetary stimulus policies. As a result, it is predicted that the yen may weaken further toward the 110-yen-per-dollar level. Compared to the recent high of 0.3235 NTD on July 6, the yen has depreciated by about 7% against the New Taiwan Dollar—meaning that 10,000 NTD can now buy approximately 2,333 more yen in cash.
