Kaohsiung adds new international landmark: Taiwan’s largest marina district

Kaohsiung Harbor has gained a new international landmark as the old port area is being transformed into a passenger and sightseeing marina hub. The city government, in collaboration with Taiwan International Ports Corporation, has invested approximately NT$500 million to create Taiwan’s largest marina terminal zone, aiming for a new waterfront seascape. It will integrate land facilities of the new Ocean Culture and Popular Music Center, connect with the Dashih’er Cultural and Creative Park, and link to the future Love River Bay Grand Harbor Bridge, establishing a new urban landmark.

Taiwan sees an average of over 10,000 yachts operating in the coastal waters of Kaohsiung Harbor each year, yet the country currently lacks an international-grade yacht base. Therefore, NT$500 million has been invested to develop the “Love River Bay Marina Terminal Zone” at Piers 13, 14, and 15 of Kaohsiung Harbor, featuring international-scale facilities.

The water area covers 10 hectares, with a total berthing length of about 460 meters, capable of accommodating approximately 160 yachts. The land area integrates performance spaces and underground parking from the Ocean Culture and Popular Music Center, estimated to provide leisure space for thousands of visitors.

Taiwan’s yacht industry ranks fourth in the world, with most production bases located in the Kaohsiung Harbor area. The harbor offers a safe and stable bay, a spring-like climate all year round, and convenient transportation, making it an ideal location for the development of the yacht tourism industry.

Once completed, the “Love River Bay Marina Terminal Zone” will serve as a model marina base and the largest marina zone in Taiwan. It will establish a complete yacht industry chain — from upstream to midstream to downstream — boost yacht-related industrial value, and build an internationally renowned marina port, becoming a new international paradise for yachts and tourism.
