Experience the Kaohsiung harbor cityscape aboard Taiwan’s first open-top double-decker bus

The Kaohsiung City Government has recently unveiled the nation’s first open-top double-decker sightseeing bus, aiming to integrate it with the light rail system as a new highlight of Kaohsiung’s transportation. Additionally, to accommodate passengers with disabilities, the open-top double-decker bus also features an additional wheelchair area, providing more comprehensive service.

The upper deck of the open-top double-decker bus accommodates 44 passengers, while the lower deck has 10 seats. It will initially operate two trial routes—east-west and north-south—to connect major attractions in Kaohsiung, including Pier-2 Art Center, Hamasen, Dream Mall, Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, City Light Gallery, National Science and Technology Museum, and Formosa Boulevard MRT Station, allowing visitors to enjoy the city and harbor scenery.

The open-top double-decker bus is staffed with guides who provide commentary, and it is also equipped with handheld audio guides to assist foreign tourists. These devices can be preloaded with attraction introductions and will automatically play when arriving at each site, offering guided tours. Currently, audio guides are available in English, Japanese, and Korean, with plans to expand to other languages. Trial operations will begin in August.
