Taoyuan’s Land Art Installation Is a Real Eye-Catcher – The Giant Sea Urchin and Huge Crab Are the Talk of the Town

This year marks the fourth edition of the Taoyuan Land Art Festival, which follows the planning direction of ‘going out and bringing in.’ It captures attention through exciting activities and touches hearts with local stories. By integrating local resources, innovatively planning themes, and employing diverse media promotions, the festival has built brand recognition. It injects new vitality into the area and creates a sustainable land art event that balances environmental, economic, and social sustainability.
 
One of the most talked-about installations at the Land Art Festival, ‘Eternal Sea,’ was created by renowned artist Mr. Shunlong Lin, who specializes in combining environmental and living space art. Using thousands of bamboo poles of varying lengths as the structure, it forms an upward-rising form reminiscent of air currents and outward-extending flows like ocean currents. The lines full of vitality symbolize the concept of eternal life, weaving together a space where light pours in from different angles. The bamboos sway gently in the sea breeze, producing crisp sounds, and undulate like waves. Natural light pouring in from the outside during day and night, interwoven with the sea breeze, offers a feast of sound and light art.

The internationally renowned bamboo weaver Artist Xu [character missing] created the piece “Thank You, Crab.” He employed traditional techniques to craft a modern artistic piece, fully showcasing the charm of bamboo. “Thank You, Crab” depicts a giant crab thanking people for treating the ocean well. “Thank You” expresses gratitude for the ocean, marine life, and the conservation efforts that have led to this “thank you.” Before the creation of “Thank You, Crab,” Artist Xu had already been deeply engaged in the worlds of art and design.

The activity area of the Taoyuan Land Art Festival is located near Yong’an Fishing Port, making it perfect for enjoying the sea and feeling the ocean breeze. There’s also a coastal bike path nearby. After viewing the artworks, you can go for a bike ride. It’s a great idea to spend a day here appreciating the masters’ creations while enjoying the beauty of nature.
