A hidden railway gem beloved by railfans on Instagram: the spectacular century-old Old Mountain Line

Once hailed as Taiwan’s most beautiful railway branch line, the century-old Old Mountain Line winds from Sanyi in Miaoli County all the way to Houli District in Taichung City. Along the route, it passes through two stations (Shengxing and the former Tai’an Station), three railway bridges (the Longteng Broken Bridge, Liyutan Bridge, Da’anxi Bridge) and eight tunnels. With its ever-changing and rich scenery, it has even been proposed as a potential World Heritage Site. As a result, its historic relics have become viral photography hotspots, attracting large numbers of visitors to take pictures.
