A world-class anime event: Take photos at Nagoya’s top five attractions

The entire city of Nagoya turns into a cosplay playground. From July 29 to August 6, the 15th World Cosplay Summit 2017 will be held, with a week-long performance period featuring participants from 35 countries. Taiwan also held preliminaries to select its national team for the competition. Amusement parks were cleared exclusively for cosplayers to take photos in anime settings, moving through both real and virtual scenes as if truly stepping into the world of anime. Visitors to Nagoya’s downtown area during this time can also cosplay on the streets or take photos with their favorite cosplayers.

The World Cosplay Summit 2017 kicks off on July 29 at Oasis21, the Aichi Arts Center, LAGUNA TEN BOSCH, Osu Shopping Street, and Meiji Mura Open-Air Architectural Museum. These five Nagoya tourist spots all become cosplay hubs, with the main event areas including the park in front of the TV station in Nagoya’s downtown “Sakae” district. Those wanting to join in street cosplay can dress up and explore the area, or snap photos with their favorite cosplayers on the street for a unique travel experience.

LAGUNA TEN BOSCH, which combines a theme park with shopping, kicks off day-and-night festivities from July 29. The One Piece-themed area of the park offers cosplay fans the chance to take photos to their heart’s content. At night, the amusement park is specially cleared, with the pool illuminated to create a fantasy nighttime cityscape, and hundreds of night lights lit up across the grass. In addition, there’s a grand fireworks show that weaves through the scene, creating a truly dreamlike atmosphere.

On August 3, cosplay fans can visit the Meiji Village, an area with a Meiji-period architectural style, to capture the perfect shot. Stroll through various distinctive buildings to find backdrops that match your anime character costumes. This is a unique photo opportunity available only at the Nagoya event.
