The Danhai Light Rail Meets a Jimmy Liao Waiting Space, Creating a Fantasy Canvas

Taiwan’s first light rail line to integrate public art throughout its entire planning—the Danhai Light Rail Green Mountain Line—hosted the “Danhai Light Rail Meets Jimmy Liao” exhibition at the platform and overpass connecting passage of the MRT Tamsui-Xinyi Station. In addition to exhibiting 11 full-scale reduced-size versions of public art sculptures and a model of the Xingwuzhe light rail train, the event used multiple artworks and atmospheric setups to immerse visitors in the fantastical world of *Close Your Eyes for a Moment*.

The first phase of the Danhai Light Rail, set to be completed and operational by the end of next year, includes the 11 stations of the Green Mountain Line, 3 stations of the Blue Sea Line, and one depot. Jimmy Liao spent nearly two years planning the overall design for the entire Green Mountain Line, creating a brand-new work titled *Close Your Eyes for a Moment* along with a series of three-dimensional pieces.

Using a magic hat as the symbol of fantasy throughout the story, it depicts a little girl putting on a hat under a wishing tree covered in magical hats, embarking on a whimsical journey along the light rail. This approach ensures public art is no longer limited to individual installations at single stations, but instead turns the waiting spaces at each station into large canvases. It offers passengers a uniquely flavorful ride, allowing them to experience Jimmy Liao’s creations in a new way and enjoy the playful synergy between art and transportation.
