As Qixi approaches, the Sanxing Township Office in Yilan has decorated the banks of the Anrong River with 5,000 vibrant umbrellas and painted the bridge spanning the river in pink-purple hues, enhanced by nighttime lighting to create a romantic atmosphere — making it this year’s go-to Qixi dating spot in Yilan. Against the backdrop of the Sanxing Rice Fragrance Festival, the 5,000 colorful umbrellas and multicolored lights shape a dazzling “umbrella” magpie bridge across the Anrong River, hoping that with the blessings of the magpie bridge, every couple’s bond grows even stronger.

In addition to the Southern Auspicious Sea-Crossing Bridge event by Yilan County Government for this year’s Qixi Valentine’s Day, the Sanxing Township Office has chosen to host “2017 Love at Qixi — Romantic Sanxing, Be There or Be Square” from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the evening of the 28th at the Flood Diversion Weir Arch Bridge. Registration is required now until the 18th, with a limit of 500 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event will feature live band performances and song dedications. Participants must pre-select a song (one per person) and write a love message of no more than 100 words. The township office will select 10 entries, and singers will perform love confessions for the couples, giving lovers a sweet surprise. Visitors can also enjoy delicious Sanxing scallion pancakes on-site.

How to get there: Take Provincial Highway 9 to Luodong, turn right onto the Ring Road, then connect to Gongzheng Road and go straight for about 500 meters. Turn right, pass by Luodong Sports Park and Wanchangchun Bridge, and follow the signs to turn left to reach the destination.
